Music of the Mississippi is a music program that takes you on a trip down the big river. Zydeco (Swamp Rock), Louisiana Soul, Blues, Tex Mex, and funky roots music. Education and audience participation are promoted at these shows. Brief explanations of instruments used and the personal connections they may have to the players in the band. Up to 100 shakers and rhythm instruments are handed out to willing participants to play along for a BIG band sound.
We have upbeat and interesting music played by true veterans that have been playing around the globe much of their lives.

Option 1 - Harmonica lessons for all ages. Songs, diagrams, literature and harmonica's all provided free to the students.
This session is sponsored by the Minnesota Blues Society. The workshop is taught by Blues society veteran instructor Everett Smithson. Some performances by the Everett Smithson Band are
accompanied by the harmonica workshop by request. The session is approx. 30 minutes long. Class size is usually 25 students or more.....
Option 2-----Zydeco dance instruction. Zydeco music and the dancing started in Louisiana and East Texas.
Zydeco dancing is between rock and roll,two step and swing dancing.
This class is taught by Minnesota Dance teacher Flory Katz. Usually a 30 minute class is held prior to the music starting.
This class is by request of the event holder and there is a small fee.
